Production sound recordists or location sound recordists
is a common term used in England and Scotland, along
with many parts of Europe & sometimes used commonly
in the USA. The equivalent terms in the USA are a
location sound person or person or location or location
sound mixer. Sometimes the term refers to sound people
or sound guy, sound man or audio guy or sound woman;
as these term are used as the same meaning in video
or film production, as well as a member on a camera
crew (AKA film crew or video crew). Like the audio
tech the production sound recordist does the same
mixing & recording of microphones, lavaliers into
a mixer or mixer/recorder as well, a camera. For film
cameras and DSLR the audio is often mixed into a digital
audio recorder, sometimes with time code called sync
recording (performed with a smart slate or other time
code generator recorder) and also often without time
code called non sync or slate sound recording.
Count
on my experiences throughout Colorado and my travels
to bring the best recording into your camera, PCM
Wav, MP3 file or altogether. With modern cameras picking
up 4 channels of audio it's easy to use the camera
to your advantage staggering the levels for the dynamics
of sound as well. Take advantage of multiple audio
subjects or sounds mixed into multiple track cameras
and recorders as well.
