History & Background -
I started out at a television
station shooting/editing & producing cable TV
programs at a Denver television station while attending
college (they liked a demo reel early I made and 'I
was in early' as a professional as they say. Prior
to landing a job at Denver 8 TV, I had years of internships
there and they needed someone familiar & capable
of many aspects of production, so they hired me after
my second year of internship there. I learned early
the tasks of production location sound mixing &
recording, as well, studio sound mixing / recording
in the roles of your typical soundee. I also mastered
ENG/EFP production sound grabbing roles and mixing
sound for live broadcasts as well on the uplink production
trucks. It was a easy transition to broadcast production
for me. I did about every production role on a day
to day basis at Denver 8 television, and while I was
in College for a degree in film / video production
with a minor in photography I applied all my school
to my employers benefit. Let's jut say I'm a go getter.
After I graduated I moved to Denver 8 Television full
time, than later to Comcast in the production / post
production department.
Applying
myself as a sound person and also working in other
production roles; from an eng / efp videographer,
editor, and lighting - all in the field, along with
the stations studio I learned an enormous amount in
a short period of time with applied experiences valuable
to many clients I have today. At the TV station I
did a enormous / daily amount of sound mixing &
recording for ENG, EFP, for studio programs sound
recordings, live broadcast of all program types and
for post production. Much of the audio for the television
station audio mixing/recording tasks were for various
promotional's, commercials, news, government &
city coverage, entertainment pieces, news among other
pieces. I also learned as a news cameraman & editor
that good location sound is the only way
to come back with acceptable footage. Even more critical
in location sound is live broadcast sound mixing,
as there are no 'do-overs', so count on me to apply
this to your production - the right mix the first
time.
After
Comcast I was offered a lead photographer position
at Denver KWGN 2, (Tribune broadcasting, now FOX).
This position include all the aspects of a one man
band, shooting, producing, sound recording, and post
production.
I
was able to learn all about good clean sound as well
for foley/sound effects, ENG & EFP production,
effective sound techniques as a camera person, effective
microphone placement, what mic to use & how, effective
sound for voice covers/narration, techniques for audio
in challenging environments, among many other valuable
sound decisions for video production audio recording.
The WHO/WHAT/WHEN/WHERE/WHY OF PRODUCTION LOCATION
SOUND.
After
Tribune I started freelancing in large amounts for
ABC, NBC, and CBS news before branching out to the
other networks as a freelancer. After these networks
I began working via referrals from film crews, video
crews and other resources getting me around Colorado
and traveling as a production person. Now, having
a family, I prefer working in Colorado, but will certainly
go where the money is in production as well (especially
for demanding Travel Channel jobs at posh resorts
- wink!).
Aside
from the television / ENG productions I have helped
many corporate video crews, EFP crews, independent
& major studio film crews, small to large groups,
2 person crews, and many other combinations.
FILM PRODUCTION - Sound for film
production is similar and different and now more similar
with digital recording technology in the field. There's
also 35mm HD SLR, RED, and other cameras needing a
skilled sound person to manage good audio into or
in sync, and you can also call on me for that. Aside
from my digital audio recorders I use for film I still
have a slate as well if you're bringing a SLR camera
for HD video or a older film camera and would like
a good clean mix with options to use later in your
NLE software. I can also jam time code from film cameras,
video cameras TC outputs into cassette, MP3, PCM or
WAV to you for transcription as well.
WHOEVER
- Whoever needs good sound for recording video, media,
radio or for film production can rely on me to bring
the best resources, attitude and enthusiasm with years
of applied experience. I have provided location sound
for numerous camera crews, television networks, film
producers, production companies, radio networks, camera
people (videographers, DP/directors of photography,
cameramen/women) for countless satisfied customers'.
Every type of broadcast programs, non broadcast corporate,
feature productions + the gamut of experience.
+
You can also count on me if you're a camera person
to help you with additional production lighting or
moving equipment as well if you need to speed your
production along.
